I've been teaching since 1998 as both a community arts educator and a K-12 classroom art teacher. Regardless of the setting, my work is fueled by a curiosity about how we understand ourselves and one another. Our identities are constantly shifting and are heavily influenced by the people, images, and institutions that include and/or exclude us.
Working with students, I'm interested in unpacking and sharing our complicated stories, both as individuals and members of overlapping communities. While I work in "the arts," I believe this work defies discipline and categorization. For me, art education is about literacy, making meaning, challenging oppressive systems, and embracing possibility.
